The District Attorney is Huntingdon County's chief law enforcement officer. He is responsible for all adult and juvenile criminal prosecutions in Huntingdon County. He has authority to initiate criminal investigations, to approve privately filed criminal complaints and he signs Criminal Informations based on arrests made by police officers after a Preliminary Hearing has taken place.
The District Attorney's powers and responsibilities are set forth in the County Code, the Crimes Code, miscellaneous criminal statutes and the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure.
During 1999, the Huntingdon County District Attorney's Office handled approximately 700 criminal matters. The present District Attorney is George Zanic. The Assistant District Attorney is Gregory Jackson. The Victim-Witness Coordinator for Huntingdon County is Vivian Ritchey.
